A private hilltop for your family

Not overlooked from any angle. Halal kitchen on request, prayer facilities in every villa, and around three and a half hours by road from the Malaysian border.

Privacy for the whole family

A gate, a hilltop, and nobody looking in.

The Sunny Hill is a private estate on its own headland above the Andaman Sea — three residences, every pool and terrace, up to 24 guests, and no other guests anywhere on the property. Privacy you can check before you book

The estate occupies an entire hill. Jungle screens it on every side, the land drops to the sea in front, and the single private drive serves this property and nothing beyond it — so there is no passing traffic and no neighbouring building with a line of sight in. No pool, terrace, balcony or bedroom is visible from anywhere off our land.

Our security cameras face outward only: the approach, the gate and the car parking area. None of them looks into the estate, and there are no cameras inside the villas. Nobody enters a villa without prior agreement — pool and villa cleaning times are always fixed with you ahead of time, so no member of staff will ever appear unannounced while your family is at the pool.

More on how the privacy works.

The kitchen

Each residence has a full kitchen, and most families who come here cook. Tell us at booking and we will set the kitchen up for you: cookware and utensils put aside for your stay, no pork or alcohol brought into the house, and halal meat sourced in Trang by our chef if you would like him to cook. We are not a certified halal kitchen and we will not pretend to be one — but we will do exactly what you ask, and tell you honestly what we have done.

Prayer

Prayer mats and the qibla direction are provided in each villa on request, and every residence has a quiet room that can be kept for prayer through your stay. Every bathroom has a hand bidet spray. There are mosques in Sikao, a few minutes down the hill, and in Trang town.

Getting here from Malaysia

Most families drive, and the roads are good the whole way.

  • Padang Besar — roughly 3 hours 30 minutes.
  • Sadao / Bukit Kayu Hitam — roughly 4 hours.
  • Hat Yai — around 3 hours, and Hat Yai airport is about the same.
  • Penang — allow about 6 hours.
  • Flying — Trang Airport (TST) is 50 minutes from the gate, Krabi (KBV) about an hour and a quarter. Direct transfers are included for guests who book direct.

The last stretch of our drive is steep. Tell us when you are ten minutes away and our pickup will meet you at the bottom to carry luggage and anyone who would rather not walk.

Trang is an easy province for a Muslim family

This coast has long-established Muslim communities — the fishing villages along the shore and on the islands of Koh Libong and Koh Mook among them — so halal food is ordinary here rather than a special request. Our concierge will send you to the places we eat at ourselves, in Sikao and in Trang town.

And the islands are the reason to come: Koh Kradan, voted the world’s best beach; the Emerald Cave at Koh Mook; the shallow, child-friendly water at Koh Ngai. All of it by private boat from the pier a few minutes from our gate.

Planning around Eid

Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on 10–11 March 2027, and Hari Raya Haji on 17–18 May 2027. Both are busy weeks across southern Thailand and we hold only a handful of estate dates around them — write to us early and we will put a courtesy hold on the dates while you decide.

Questions Muslim families ask us

Can the women in our family use the pool without covering?

Yes, and this is the reason many families choose us. The estate is a gated hilltop of its own, screened by jungle and not overlooked by any neighbouring building, road or path. Our security cameras face outward at the gate and parking area only — none of them looks at a pool or terrace. Nobody enters a villa without prior agreement, and cleaning times are arranged with you in advance, so there are never surprise visitors while your family is at the pool.

Can the kitchen be kept halal?

Yes, on request. Tell us when you book and we will prepare the villa kitchen to your requirements — separate cookware and utensils set aside for your stay, and no pork or alcohol brought into the house. Our chef will source halal meat in Trang. We are not a certified halal kitchen, and we would rather tell you that plainly than imply otherwise.

Is there somewhere to pray?

Yes. Prayer mats and the qibla direction are provided in each villa on request, and every residence has a quiet room that can be set aside for prayer for the length of your stay. Every bathroom has a hand bidet spray, as is standard in Thailand.

Is alcohol served at the property?

There is no bar and no minibar at The Sunny Hill. Nothing is stocked in the villas that you have not asked for, and we serve nothing you do not order.

How do we get there from Malaysia?

Most families drive. It is roughly three and a half hours from the Padang Besar crossing and about four from Sadao / Bukit Kayu Hitam, on good roads through Hat Yai and Trang town. From Penang allow around six hours. Flying, Trang Airport is 50 minutes away and Krabi about an hour and a quarter, both with connections from Kuala Lumpur.

Is halal food easy to find nearby?

Very. Trang province has long-established Muslim communities — the fishing villages along this coast and on the nearby islands of Koh Libong and Koh Mook among them — and there are mosques and halal restaurants in Sikao, a few minutes away, and in Trang town. Our concierge will point you to the ones we would eat at ourselves.

Is the estate suitable for a large family group?

It is built for it. The Private Estate sleeps up to 24 across eight bedrooms in three residences, with a dining table that seats twenty and full kitchens in each house. Grandparents, parents and children can share the hill without sharing a room.
